For six decades, the premier folkloric dance company of Mexico, Ballet Folklórico de México de Amalia Hernandez, has brought Mexican history and culture to stages around the world. The company, housed in the Palace of Fine Arts in Mexico City, has pioneered the art form of baile folklorico, a collective term for traditional Latin American dances that emphasize local folk culture. The Ridgefield Playhouse is proud to bring this incredible dance troupe to the stage on Wednesday, September 30 at 7:30 p.m. as part of the Palm Bay International World Beat Series. Come see exquisite folk dances accompanied by a traditional mariachi band and colorful costumes that reflect the rich culture of Mexico. The dances reflect the traditions, customs, legends, beliefs and lifestyles of people in particular countries and regions. Expressing the life and spirit of the people through movement and music, it is both historical and current, preserving tradition yet moving with the present times. Ticket holders are invited to a complimentary wine tasting at 6:45 p.m. with Palm Bay International in the lobby prior to the show.
