Big demand for Power of Attorney by the Brazilian Community

A Power of Attorney (also known as a POA) is a written authorization in which one person (the principal) appoints another person (called an “agent” or “attorney-in-fact”) to act as an agent on his or her behalf. Brazilians who are above 18 years old or who have been emancipated qualify to request a POA.

To request a POA at the Consulate General of Brazil in Hartford, one must be a Brazilian citizen or a foreigner with a valid National Foreigner Registration (RNE in Portuguese). Foreigners who do not have a RNE can only request a POA for private or other affairs at a Clerk
