The Arab Spring, the Green Revolution in Iran, Tahrir Square, Syria, Gezi Square in Turkey. As someone who has been interested in social movements and social change for years, I have followed each of these closely. However much I related to these young protesters and their passion for social change, they always seemed foreign, happening in faraway places.
So I was surprised when hints of social discontent and upheaval in Brazil started filling my Twitter timeline. I wondered and secretly hoped – is this movement for true democracy now coming to Brazil? The images and headlines were familiar
