The atmosphere was vibrant, like a big family reunion, as Lions Club members walked into Anthony’s Lake Club in Danbury on July 22. The reason for such energy and enthusiasm was the celebration of the annual installation of the incoming officers and board of directors, and recognition of the deeds of the club’s members.
“Every year, the club recognizes one or two members that exceed its expectations for services,” said immediate past president William Lopez. This year, the outstanding service loyalty and devotion to Lionism award was presented to Lion’s member Charlotte Cilley. The other recipients were not in attendance.
Just like Melvin Jones, the founder of Lions Clubs International, the ideal of serving humanitarian needs and recruiting others who would join them in their quest to make the world a better and more compassionate place is rooted within the members of the Danbury Lions.
“We Lions change lives here and around the world every single day. We Lions save lives here and around the world every single day, literally,” said the incoming president Robert Yamin when called to the podium for the passing of the gavel ceremony from past president Lopez. Yamin has been a member of the Lions for 25 years. Growing the club’s membership will be his primary mission.
