You may be wondering, how could I be thinking about planting trees after a snowstorm? Well, time goes by quickly, and when we least expect it, spring will be right around the corner.
One way to get ready for the season is by joining the Arbor Day Foundation and getting in the mood for spring planting. Anyone from Connecticut who joins the Foundation in February 2016 will receive 10 free Eastern redbud trees to plant when the weather turns warm – hopefully soon!
The free trees are part of the nonprofit Foundation’s Trees for America campaign.
According to Matt Harris, the chief executive of the Arbor Day Foundation, “Redbuds will help beautify Connecticut for many years to come,” as well as adding to “the proud heritage of Connecticut’s existing Tree City USA communities,” a program that has supported community forestry throughout the country for the past 40 years.
Once you join the Foundation, the trees will be shipped postpaid at the right time for planting, between March 1 and May 31. No worries, they will come with planting instructions. The 6- to 12-inch trees are guaranteed to grow, or they will be replaced free of charge.
To inspire members to continue planting and caring for our environment, they will also receive a subscription to the Foundation’s colorful bimonthly publication, Arbor Day, and The Tree Book.
So, if you want to become a member of the Foundation and receive the free trees, send a $10 contribution to TEN FREE EASTERN REDBUD TREES, Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410, by February 29, 2016, or visit arborday.org/february.
