Thanks to those who give so generously of their time
Dear Editor,
National Volunteer Week, April 19 through 25, is designated to recognize all volunteers and celebrate the spirit of volunteerism.
The American Red Cross in Connecticut is especially grateful for the thousands of volunteers who contribute their time, energy and skills. We could not fulfill our mission without the selfless work of people who give without any expectation of being paid for their time.
However, volunteers will tell you that they are "wellpaid." The reward for their work is not money, but instead, the satisfaction of helping others.
The American Red Cross in Connecticut welcomes volunteers of all ages and skills.
This year, the theme of National Volunteer Week is "Celebrating People in Action," and that is just what Red Cross volunteers are - people in action. American Red Cross volunteers provide relief to victims affected by domestic and international disasters; they help people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies; they provide lifesaving blood to victims of disease, burns and injuries; they connect military families separated by a loved one's call to duty; and they teach lifesaving skills. The American Red Cross celebrates the actions of our volunteers who truly are the lifeblood of our organization.
To the more than 12,000 volunteers who help us to serve our communities, we express our deepest thanks for all you give us. If you are not currently a volunteer for the American Red Cross, you are invited to join us. To volunteer, visit www.ctredcross. org or call 1-877-287-3327.
