And the winner is…
The Danbury Music Centre, a unique and homegrown institution that provides local musicians of varying levels of accomplishment the opportunity to perform and to bring the joy of music to themselves and to members of their community, announced the results of the annual Danbury Symphony Orchestra Student Concerto Competition, which was held on Saturday, November 7, 2009.
Cellist Nicholas Heinzmann, a senior at Ridgefield High School, was the first place winner in the final round of this competition. Nicholas played the first movement of the Dvorak Cello Concerto in B minor and won the opportunity to perform this movement with the Danbury Symphony Orchestra on Sunday, January 24, 2010. The concert will take place at Danbury High School at 3pm, and will be open to the public. Other pieces on the program include Peter and the Wolf by Prokofiev and Carnival of the Animals by Saint-Saens.Nicholas will graduate from Ridgefield High School in June and is currently applying to music conservatories to pursue a degree in cello performance.
