A crowded hall of supporters attended the event hosted by the Association of Religious Communities (ARC) Board of Directors to raise funds to hire a person to help their "A Peaceable Home" program and to raise awareness about a preventable public health problem affecting more than 10% of the United States population - domestic violence.

"Domestic violence is not a fabric of a family but a fabric of our society," said Rev. Angelo S. Arrando, President of ARC's Board of Directors, emphasizing the value of the attendees' contributions to fulfilling the program's objective.

June DeLair, a professional auctioneer, was in charge of turning their goal into reality through an enthusiastic live auction, which included items ranging from a basket of special selection of wines to a one-week trip for four to Tuscany in Italy, and an African safari photo shoot for two.

"We want to reach out to young people, because there is a cycle. Domestic violence is a prelude to murder and other crimes," said Blumenthal, adding, "It's a law enforcement problem, and it is a social, a cultural and a family problem."

ARC was founded over thirty years ago as a collaborative effort among area clergy to meet the needs of the community that were too large for any one congregation to meet. Its mission is "to facilitate interfaith cooperation and other partnerships to alleviate the causes of violence, suffering and hate while advancing peace, justice and human dignity."
