Free ESL class for construction workers and home childcare providers

Folks who are construction workers and home childcare providers – don’t miss this awesome opportunity to learn English (and much more) FRE of charge! Registration is open now! Classes begin in January and will be offered at CT Works, 893 Main Street, Manchester, and at the Connecticut Puerto Rican Forum (CPRF) at 95 Park Street in Hartford.

Classes for current or future home child care providers will be held on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Participants will be assisted in applying for a home daycare license, which is required by Connecticut law, and in creating a professional portfolio they can use in the job market. Topics include child development, activities for children, discipline, safety, and setting up a business plan (e.g., financing, taxation, and marketing).

Classes for construction workers will be held on Mondays and Thursdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Participants will have the opportunity to obtain OSHA- 10 Construction certification, which is required by federal law for employment in construction. Topics include on-the-job safety and health, excavations, tools, rights and responsibilities of employees and employers, etc.
