Bringing a warm feeling into your neighbors’ hearts

On a cold winter night, members of the Bridgeport community gathered together to offer individuals in need a nice and hearty hot meal, winter coats and other basic items for their everyday needs.

On December 28, the Azul Restaurant, located on 1691 Main Street in Bridgeport, was the scenario of a warm, cooperative co-fraternization organized by Mara Palmieri, columnist for the Brazilian Times and community leader. Her friend Geisa Kryszczynski assisted with raising funds among friends and local business owners for the event.“It was a last minute decision,” said Palmieri. “I have no words to thank the community for their friendship, kindness and support. Everyone came aboard and contributed with money, boxes of fresh fruits, winter jackets and gloves, toothbrushes, etc.,” said Palmieri, deeply touched by the generosity of her friends.

Over 100 homeless and currently unemployed members of the community, some invited by Sister Theresa Tremblay, director of the Daughters of Charity of the Most Precious Blood in Bridgeport, attended the event.

“When I saw the amount of homeless people in the local shelter and on the streets, I felt I had to do something to bring a little happiness and comfort into their lives,” said Palmieri. “All you need is the willingness to make someone happy… and you can do it! That is what the world needs.”
