Bollywood Masti

The evening of December 26 at the Portuguese Cultural Center in Danbury became the tinseltown of Bollywood, with adults and children dressed as movie stars and dancing to popular hit movie songs.

Organized by the Indian Association of Western Connecticut (IAWCT), the event “Bollywood Masti” was a holiday party to cherish the festive season and to connect with community members. Attendees were residents from all over the Western Connecticut and New York areas. People dressed up as movie stars from films such as “Singh is King,” “Hare Rama Hare Krishna” and “lagaan” as well as movie stars such as “Katrina Kaif.” The evening opened with a performance of teenage girls dancing to the music of “Jai Ho!” from Slumdog Millionaire.

People enjoyed tasty appetizers like samosas, bhel and pakoras, along with delicious mango lassi and virgin Piña Coladas. Dinner was an elaborate buffet of Indian cuisine with fresh breads made on the spot, including naan and parathas. There were decadent desserts too...Mango Kulfi and Gajar ka Hawla (Carrot Pudding).

The DJ played a variety of music, ranging from Indian classical to the trendy new sounds, which kept the crowd on their feet. It certainly was a party to remember!
