Grand opening of the Brazilian Consulate in Hartford

The new branch of the Consulate General of Brazil in Hartford received numerous

After 40 years in a diplomatic career and now heading for the first time a Consulate office in the United States, the Consul General of Brazil in Hartford, Ambassador Ronaldo Dunlop, said the new branch will help to partially relieve the workload of the Consulates in New York and Boston.

Ambassador Otto Agripino Maia, Undersecretary for the Brazilian Communities Abroad, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Brazil, whose efforts in approving and completing the process of opening the new Consulate were commendable, expressed his satisfaction and pride in expanding consular services to all residents of the jurisdiction areas it serves.

“We are going to work together with the City of Hartford, because we wish to serve the Brazilian community and the greater North-American [one] as well,” stated Maia. Local, state and federal authorities also attended the reception, such as State Senator Gary D.

Lebeau, who presented a General Assembly of Connecticut Proclamation to Ambassador Dunlop, Mayor of Hartford Eddie Perez, and representatives for U.S. Senators Joseph Lieberman and Christopher Dodd.

“For 375 years, our city has served as the ‘House of Hope’ for people [from] all over the world,” said Mayor Perez. “I want to welcome the Consulate here and recognize the contributions and strength of the Brazilian community in Hartford.”

After presenting Dunlop with a Mayor’s proclamation and Ambassador Maia with a book about the history of Hartford, Mayor Perez and both Ambassadors unveiled the official inauguration plaque of the Consulate.

The Consulate General of Brazil in Hartford is located in the heart of the city at One Constitution Plaza.
