American Dream Awards – Nomination Rules

For 15 years, Tribuna has upheld its mission to build bridges and join cultures. In that process, it has come across compelling stories of immigrants who, like Tribuna’s founders, have overcome tremendous odds and adversity to make their American Dreams come true. In celebration of its 15th Anniversary, Tribuna and its partners want to recognize members of the community who share in their story.

  • American Dream Person of the Year Award

Winner will receive plaque, Name included at permanent displayed at Tribuna’ s American Dream Awards plaque at Danbury City Hall, $2,000 cash award, and 2 tickets to the gala

Criteria: Nominees must be 18 years or older who is an immigrant living in the Greater Danbury area, who are overcoming tremendous odds and adversity to make their American Dreams come true.

  • American Dream Student of the Year

Winner will receive plaque, Name included at permanent displayed at Tribuna’ s American Dream Awards plaque at Danbury City Hall, $2,000 cash award, and 2 tickets to the gala

Criteria: Nominees must be 16 years or older who is an immigrant or a child of immigrants living in the Greater Danbury area, who are overcoming tremendous odds and adversity to make their dreams of higher education come true

Nomination rules:

Self-Nomination or nominations by local businesses, elected officials, non-profit organizations family, friends, fellow students, or co-workers are accepted. A nomination form must be completed in addition to a 300 word nomination essay in English, Portuguese or Spanish in support of nomination. Please advise those writing letters to be as specific as possible when explaining why this person is being nominated, and how he/she meets the criteria for the award. State how his/her determination, attitude towards life, and personal story has illustrates their journey to make their American dream come true. Supplemental documentation is also encouraged (report cards, newspaper articles, academic awards etc.).

Nominations must be submitted by March 20, 2014.

Nomination forms can be mailed to Tribuna Newspaper – 8 West Street, Suite 201, Danbury, CT 06810, emailed to editor@tribunact.com, or hand delivered at Danbury City Hall 155 Deer Hill Ave. – Danbury, CT 06810, Attention to Elisa Munoz.
