The start of a new year always feels like the right time to start new healthy habits. One habit I’ll happily continue into the New Year is to start out each day with a healthy breakfast.
One of my go-to healthy choices is a smoothie and this recipe is one of my all-time favorite flavor combinations. Featuring pineapple, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger and chia seeds, this smoothie not only tastes amazing, it’s a powerhouse of anti-oxidants.
All the main ingredients are known for their anti-inflammatory properties. Why should we care about that? Well, chronic inflammation is often a root cause of many illnesses including heart disease, cancer, arthritis and it even may play a role in Alzheimer’s disease. Inflammation is part of the body’s healing response, but when it persists or serves no purpose, it can damage the body instead of helping it.
Tropical Turmeric Smoothie
- 1 cup coconut water
- ½ fresh pineapple, cored and cut into chunks
- 1 banana
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon chia seeds
- Starting with the coconut water, place all the ingredients in a blender.
- Put on the lid and puree until smooth.
