Last week, Danbury Public Schools made the decision to move to the full-distance learning model (in home) instead of in-school learning due to the upward trend of positive COVID-19 cases. The decision was made over time in consultation with DPS Health/Nursing services, the City’s Health Director, Dr. Fong, the district medical doctor and Danbury Hospital doctors. We have heard from many families who don’t agree with this decision and understand the hardship this change represents for families.

Gov. Lamont Extends Connecticut’s State of Emergency to February 9

Governor Ned Lamont announced that he has signed orders extending to February 9, 2021, Connecticut’s states of civil preparedness and public health emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

DPH Issues COVID-19 Alert to Danbury After Significant Spike in New Cases

On August 22, the Connecticut Department of Public Health issued a COVID-19 alert for Danbury after a significant increase in cases in the last two weeks, with much of the outbreak related to recent domestic and international travel. Connecticut is requiring anyone traveling to the state from many other US states to self-quarantine for 14 days upon arrival.

We may be physically apart, with social and physical distancing in place for the foreseeable future, but AARP Connecticut hasn’t stopped providing valuable information and resources to people of all ages in communities across Connecticut. While convening in-person events and seeing people in communities across the state is a core part of our mission, we have changed our approach in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak from providing information, advocacy and resources in-person to virtually.

Western Connecticut State University Plans to Open Both Campuses for In-Person Classes

Western Connecticut State University is planning to open both campuses for in-person classes at the end of August. The majority of classes will continue to be taught online, or as a mix of online and in-person, but students and professors will be meeting face-to-face every day.

Back to School with Covid-19

Back to School! We don't know exactly how it will go during a pandemic, but parents will have some extra preparation this year. Before school starts, children need to know about social distancing, frequent hand washing and cleaning surfaces frequently. Masks are a little more complicated but essential for everyone to wear.
