Welcome to the new school year. Whether your child is starting kindergarten or high school, we are glad you and your family are part of the Danbury Public School community, and we are honored to be part of this journey with you. Teachers have been working for weeks to prepare for the opening of school, along with support staff who have cleaned, painted, and tiled the hallways and classrooms. Principals have prepared to welcome our families to their schools by sending letters home, making calls to families, and hosting orientation events and school walk-throughs for new students.

We know that for some of our families, the start of this school year is difficult with fear and uncertainty. Your child’s school is a safe place. Our schools remain focused on one thing: educating and caring for your children. From the safety advocate to the principal, teachers, lunch staff, and other staff, we are there to support you. Our school counselors, social workers, and family liaisons are available to talk through your concerns, connect you with community resources, and create a plan that works for you.

Children love structure in their lives, and we know that for many, normal schedules and routines may be disrupted. Your child’s attendance in school helps them to have the structure provided by their school. The best way we can support your child is to have them in school. School gives children structure, connection, meals, and the steady presence of caring adults, especially during moments when the rest of their daily life feels unpredictable.

Look for information in the next few weeks about your school’s Open House. This evening event provides important information about your school and your child’s classroom. The Danbury Public Schools’ Back to School Guide has been sent to all families in the district. Check your ParentSquare account for the Guide. It is full of information and resources for families and students.

Though this school year may have started off very differently for many families, please reach out to your school principal or the FACE Center for any help that you may need. We are here to assist your family by providing resources and support. The Office of Family, School, and Community Partnerships at the Family and Community Engagement Center is here to help you.
