Summer may be winding down, but programs at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center continue to educate and entertain seniors daily. In addition to our regular daily programming, which includes exercise classes, art classes, dance and more; we have some amazing special programming coming over the next month.

Our summer Food Truck Tuesdays have started to wrap up for 2025. On Tuesday, August 5, we welcome back the Greek Style Grill truck for some traditional Greek delicacies. Grab a Gyro or a pita sandwich and join us! On Tuesday, August 12, we welcome back the Cousin’s Maine Lobster Truck. If you haven’t experienced this incredible New England tradition featured on The Food Network and ABC’s Shark Tank, now is the time! From Lobster Rolls to Lobster Tacos and everything in between, you’re in for a treat. We finish our Food Truck Tuesdays with The Stacks Mobile, featuring some good old-fashioned burgers and sandwiches made by one of the best in the area.

If healthier food is your thing, we continue our mobile farmer’s market on the second Wednesday of every month from 1-3pm. Clatter Valley Farm in New Milford will bring their farm stand to Elmwood Hall complete with fresh veggies and other treats to purchase.

As we also head into the Medicare enrollment period, the Danbury Senior Center has partnered with the WCAAA (Western Connecticut Area Agency on Aging) and the Senior Medicare Patrol for a few education programs which can help inform your decisions. On August 21, at 2:30pm, the WCAAA will present “Understanding Medicare & Medicaid,” a program on understanding what might be the right choices for you or a loved one. If you already know what you want, on Monday, August 18, the Senior Medicare Patrol will give a presentation on Medicare fraud, warning about what scams are out there and how you can avoid falling into traps.

In September, the WCAAA returns to give a more specific breakdown of two of the most popular Medicare Plans. On September 16, at 1 pm, they will present “Medicare Original vs. Medicare Advantage.” Come hear the pros and cons of each plan and see what might work best for you or a loved one. Finally, on Thursday, October 2, the WCAAA will be back once more with a program on “Preparing for Medicare Open Enrollment.” They will walk you through all of the information and steps you will need to sign up for Medicare.

On a lighter note, August 27 begins our monthly Script in Hand Play Reading Series. If you have ever wanted to be an actor or just want to have some fun, this group is for you. Each month, we will read a play out loud. August's play is Neil Simon’s Plaza Suite. Come take on one of the roles or just watch and enjoy. Either way, it will be a lot of fun.
