If you promised yourself you would get into shape in the new year, we’ve got Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, and Strength Training happening weekly.

New Year, New You! Want to try something you’ve never tried before? Do you keep telling yourself, “Next year, I’ll try that”? Well, it is next year! If you are 60 or older, join us at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center to find your next hobby.

If you promised yourself you would get into shape in the new year, we’ve got Yoga, Tai Chi, Zumba, and Strength Training happening weekly. You can also join our Walking Club, which meets at the Danbury Fair Mall on Mondays and Fridays. If you’re looking for something even more active, our Pickleball Club meets at the Danbury War Memorial on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon. Bring your paddle, some water, and join us for some fun.

If arts and crafts are your thing, our Quilting & Sewing Society meets every Monday, and our Knit & Crochet Club meets on Thursdays. We also offer a guided art class on Tuesdays to help you with your own individual projects. On Thursdays, our Woodcarving Club meets at the center to work on hands-on projects. In addition, we offer a variety of other arts and crafts classes throughout the month.

In addition to our monthly Bingo and Trivia, we have an array of special events happening throughout January and February. On January 14, we welcome back AARP for their annual Safe Driver Course. Refresh your driving skills and you may save on your car insurance (possible discount—please check with your individual insurance provider to verify eligibility). In this four-hour course, participants will learn skills and strategies for everyday driving, discover defensive driving techniques to handle aggressive drivers, explore local laws and traffic rules, and receive tips on proper vehicle maintenance to ensure safety before driving.

This course is open to all individuals age 50 and older, regardless of Danbury Senior Center membership. The cost is $20 for AARP members and $25 for non-members. Payment is accepted by check only, made payable to AARP.

Starting this month, our Program Coordinator, Matt Austin, will take a deep dive into the weird and wonderful world of media in Matt’s Monthly Media Mash-Up. Join Matt at 11 a.m. on the fourth Friday of every month as he takes a journey down the weird and wonderful rabbit hole of classic media—from long-lost 1970s variety shows to musical one-hit wonders and everything in between. Come take a stroll down memory lane as Matt explores the stories behind some of media’s most unusual moments.

Save the date! On Tuesday, February 10, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., we will once again partner with The New American Dream Foundation for a cultural celebration. This time, we will be celebrating Italy and Italian heritage. Join us for Italian history, delicious Italian food, and a performance by Jack Sings Dino, a musical tribute to Dean Martin. Space is very limited, and advance registration is required.

Whatever your interests may be, there is always something for everyone at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center. Remember, the center—located at 10 Elmwood Place in Danbury—is open Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Membership is FREE for all individuals age 60 and older, regardless of residency. We would love to see you very soon!
