New Activities and Events Coming Up at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center

By Matthew Austin / Elderly Services Program Coordinator

Avoid the April showers and stay active and dry at the Elmwood Hall Danbury Senior Center! All year long, we offer classes and other special events to keep those over 60 engaged and active. We have quite a few special events coming up in the next few months.

First up, starting April 7 is the return of our ever popular “Memories to Memoir” writing workshop. Have you ever thought, "I have some great stories!" and wanted to get them written down? Then this workshop is for you! This is a six-week writing workshop meeting every Tuesday from 1:00pm-2:30pm, from October 20-November 24. Join writer Beth Young as she works to help you put your memories on paper.

If you would like to relax and experience something new, join us for a Crystal Sound Bath & Meditation Workshop on Monday, April 20 at 1:30pm. Join sound vibration therapy practitioner Jeanine Chayka of Inspired Vibration by JC for this introduction to Sound Bath Healing. Jeanine will offer a short introduction to the principles and practices of sound healing, then lead participants on a guided meditation focused on pain relief, using tuning forks, drums, singing bowls and other instruments. There is no physical contact during this program. Jeanine Chayka is the founder of Inspired Vibrations. She is certified as an Advance level Practitioner of Sound and Vibrational Therapies, certified Practitioner in Reiki 1 and 2, and a Meditation guide as well as a Certified Recovery Support Specialist through Hartford Healthcare.

We also have a FREE concert by Jack Lynn, a Dean Martin Tribute artist, on Wednesday, April 29, from 1:00pm -2:00pm. Jack Lynn sings the hits of Dean Martin. His "Dino" style and sound will take you back to the "Swingin' Rat Pack Years" of the late 1940s, 50s and 60s, as he sings all the great tunes made famous by Dean Martin. Remember Amore, Return to Me, I Have But One Heart, Sway, Memories Are Made of This, Everybody Loves Somebody, and all the other great Dino hits? Enjoy traveling back with Jack to a time when things were a bit more relaxed, maybe a bit easier going ... just like the days when the "King of Cool" himself was at the top of the music charts.

We also have a few classes for crafters. On Thursday, April 9, from 1:00pm-3:30pm, we welcome artist Pam Cassidy for a Springtime Bird Mini Painting class. With Pam's guidance, you will learn to paint a lovely springtime bird on a small 6x6 canvas. Cost is $5 to cover materials and must be paid upon registration. No refunds for cancellations. Last day to register is April 2.  On Thursday, April 30, from 1:00pm-3:30pm, we will welcome artist Kim McCormack for a Creative Cardmaking class. Join artist Kim McCormack as she leads us through a class on creative card making. No experience necessary. Come learn how to make beautiful greeting cards.
